ANTIPAROS (and Saliagos)

Only a narrow stretch of sea separates Paros from Antiparos. Closely related to the latter it has often shared destiny. The first human presence dates back to the Neolithic period on the island Saliagos, one of the oldest settlements in the Cyclades. A number of other islands in the Strait of Antiparos or on the island itself have also provided evidence of occupation during the third millennium as attested by the Cycladic graves at Apantima, Soros, Petalida, Krasades.
In historical times the island was called Oliaros and was dependent on Paros. Ceramic fragments found on the island dating from the Geometric period through the Roman era attest its occupation.
